1. Who we are

GreenShelf is an independent project run by Hitesh Gurnani and Anshul Date. We are not a registered company. There are no investors, advertisers, or third parties profiting from your data. If anything in this policy is unclear, email us at greenshelf1320@gmail.com.

2. Information we collect

When you create an account or list a book, we collect:

• Your name (shown on your profile and listings)
• Email address (for sign-in only, never shown publicly)
• Area / neighborhood (e.g. Al Khuwair, Bawshar) — never your full address
• Listings you post: book title, condition, photos, description, grade level, subject
• Profile information you choose to add
• Basic technical data (your browser type and an anonymous session token, so the site works)

We do not collect phone numbers, payment information, government IDs, location data, or anything else not listed above.

3. How we use it

• To let you sign in and stay signed in
• To display your listings so other users can find books
• To help users contact each other about books
• To respond to reports of misuse or safety concerns
• To improve the site (e.g. fixing bugs, understanding what's broken)

We never sell your data. We never share it with advertisers. We do not run ads.

4. How and where it's stored

Your data is stored securely on Supabase, a reputable cloud database provider used by thousands of apps worldwide. Passwords are hashed (we cannot read them). Photos are stored in encrypted cloud storage.

5. What we share with others

The only people who see your information are other GreenShelf users — and only the parts you choose to make public (your name, area, and listings). We do not share, sell, or trade your data with any outside party. Government or law enforcement requests would only be honored if legally required.

6. Users under 18

GreenShelf is designed for students and parents in Oman. Many of our users are minors. If you are under 18, please use the site with the knowledge and permission of a parent or guardian. We strongly recommend that in-person book exchanges with strangers are supervised by an adult.

We do not knowingly collect more information from minors than from any other user. If a parent or guardian wants their child's account or data removed, email us at greenshelf1320@gmail.com and we'll handle it within 7 days.

7. Cookies and local storage

We use a small amount of browser storage to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. No Facebook pixel, no Google Analytics, no advertising trackers.

8. Your rights

You can, at any time:

• Edit or delete your listings from your profile
• Update your profile information
• Request full deletion of your account and all associated data
• Request a copy of any data we hold about you

For account deletion or data requests, email greenshelf1320@gmail.com. We aim to respond within 7 days.

9. Reports and safety

If you encounter a user behaving inappropriately, or a listing that violates our Terms of Service, please use the report feature inside the app or email us directly. We review reports within 24 hours. Serious concerns are escalated immediately.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as GreenShelf grows. If we make significant changes, we'll display a notice on the site. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision.
