Terms of Service

These terms are short, plain, and meant to keep GreenShelf a safe, friendly place. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them.
1. What GreenShelf is
GreenShelf is a free platform for students and parents in Oman to give away or receive used school books. It is not a shop, marketplace, or paid service. Books are listed and exchanged for free. No money changes hands through GreenShelf, and we do not facilitate or take a cut of any transaction.
2. Who can use GreenShelf
You can use GreenShelf if you are at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. By signing up, you confirm that you meet these conditions.
3. Your account
- Use your real first name. False or misleading identities are not allowed.
- One account per person.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Tell us right away at greenshelf1320@gmail.com if you think your account has been compromised.
4. Listings
When you post a book, you agree that:
- The book is yours to give away.
- You are giving it away for free. Asking for any payment, donation, or trade in exchange is not allowed.
- Your description and photo accurately reflect the book's condition.
- The book is not a pirated copy, photocopy, or scanned reproduction.
- You agree to mark the listing as taken once it's been given away.
5. Meeting in person
Stay safe. GreenShelf does not supervise in-person meetings. Use common sense: meet in public places during daytime, bring a parent or friend, and never share personal information that isn't necessary. If you are under 18, have a parent involved in any handover.
You are solely responsible for any meeting you arrange. GreenShelf is not responsible for what happens at handovers, including (but not limited to) lost or damaged property, missed appointments, or any conduct between users.
6. What you can't do
Do not use GreenShelf to:
- Sell, rent, or trade books — listings must be free
- Post anything illegal, offensive, hateful, or harmful
- Harass, threaten, or contact other users for non-book reasons
- Impersonate someone else
- Scrape, copy, or republish listings or user data
- Attempt to break, hack, or interfere with the site
- Advertise or solicit for any unrelated service
Doing any of the above can get your account removed without notice.
7. Reports and moderation
If a user or listing breaks these terms, please report them through the in-app report button or email us. We review reports within 24 hours and act in our reasonable discretion. We can remove listings, warn users, or remove accounts at any time.
8. Content you post
You keep ownership of the photos and descriptions you post. By posting them, you grant GreenShelf a non-exclusive licence to display them on the site so that other users can find and view your listing. We will remove your content if you delete your listing or close your account.
9. No guarantees
GreenShelf is offered as-is, by two students, for free. We do everything we can to keep it working, but we don't guarantee:
- That a listed book is still available, in the described condition, or actually as shown
- That the other user will show up, respond, or behave well
- That the site will be available without bugs or downtime
- That data won't ever be lost (though we back things up reasonably)
To the maximum extent allowed by law, GreenShelf and its creators are not liable for any loss, damage, or harm arising from your use of the site or any exchange of books between users.
10. Closing your account
You can request account deletion at any time by emailing greenshelf1320@gmail.com. We may also close accounts that violate these terms, harm other users, or behave abusively.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. If we change anything important, we'll post a notice on the site. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
